Evelyn
K. Maron
2nd VP Programming, Arts and Culture Chair
Evelyn Maron is retired from the Piscataway school system after 27 years as a social worker. Previously she worked in family counseling and child welfare fields. Evelyn earned a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Delaware and a Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Pennsylvania.
She joined the Meadows over 10 years ago after attending a Candlelight Concert at the Van Wickle House. The wonderful acoustics in the old house emulated the chamber music sounds of previous times. Evelyn was nominated to the Board of Directors shortly after making known her interest in the organization and subsequently served as Board Secretary. Evelyn has written articles for the MeadowLark and represented the Meadows at the Raritan Millstone Heritage Alliance. She has served on many Meadows’ committees, baking and serving refreshments at many events sponsored by these committees.
In 2003, she was asked to form a new Arts & Culture Committee, which she has chaired since. As a result, the Meadows has presented annual sold-out readings by New Jersey poets, including Pulitzer Prize winner Paul Muldoon, Charles Johnson, and the Cool Women Poets. Under her direction the Arts & Culture Committee has also presented NJ musical entertainers Lucille Carr-Kaffashan, Bobby Byrne, the Cantabile Chorale, and the Gloria Consort. The fantastic Fireside Chats, developed by current Meadows president Chris Retz, are also part of the Arts & Culture Committee.
In other volunteer endeavors, she worked with the Contact We Care Crisis Helpline, donating almost 700 hours of her time. She is also a member of COSAC, the NJ Center for Outreach and Services to the Autism Community.
